Gong

Not a note taker: a revenue platform that happens to record calls, priced by quote and aimed at sales leadership.

Our verdict

A revenue platform that records calls, not a note taker. Right for a sales org with a budget cycle, wrong for a person who wants their meetings written up.

Gong is not a note taker and comparing it to one flatters both. It is a revenue platform that records and analyses a whole sales team’s calls, then turns that into forecasting, deal inspection and rep coaching. The output is for a sales leader looking at a pipeline, not for a person who wants their meeting written up.

There is no published price. Gong’s pricing page states that licences are priced per user, that a platform fee sits on top based on how many users are supported, and that integrating an existing tech stack is free. Everything else goes through a form and a proposal, and there is no free tier or self-serve signup, so it cannot be trialled the way the rest of this category can. It does publish real developer documentation.

What it does well

  • Records and analyses sales calls across a whole team, not one person's notes
  • Deal and pipeline forecasting built on what was said in calls
  • Coaching and enablement for reps based on recorded conversations
  • Multilingual capability and a large integration catalogue
  • Public developer API

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Built for a revenue team's reporting, not an individual's notes source
  • Integrations with an existing tech stack are included rather than charged for source
  • Public developer documentation source

Cons

  • No published price at all: every buyer goes through a form and a proposal source
  • A platform fee sits on top of per-user licences, so the entry cost is not linear source
  • No free tier and no self-serve signup, so it cannot be trialled the way the others can source
