Our verdict

The widest capture surface in this category at the lowest top-tier price, with no compliance report or documented API behind it yet.

HyNote is an AI note taker that treats a meeting as one input among eight. The same account handles live audio, uploaded recordings, video, PDFs, image OCR, YouTube links, web pages and phone calls, and turns any of them into a transcript, a summary and an action list using more than thirty templates. It records Zoom, Google Meet, Teams and Webex from the device rather than sending a bot into the call, so nothing appears in the participant list. Since 28 September there is also a free Mac app that transcribes on the device.

Pricing is the strongest part of the case. The Unlimited plan is $189.99 a year, which is below what Otter charges for a single seat of its mid tier, and the free plan includes real recording and transcription rather than a countdown to a paywall. Three things are worth knowing before you buy. The pricing page opens on annual rates, so the $6.66 headline is $11.99 if you pay monthly, and the one-time credits halve with it (Pro gets 150 instead of 300); buying inside the iOS app usually costs more than the web, with Unlimited at $199.99 a year in-app against $189.99 on the site; and Teams is $20 a seat monthly, with $15 the yearly-billed rate.

The gap in the record is compliance. In August the homepage claimed SOC 2 Type II infrastructure and HIPAA-aligned workflows. That line is gone, and the security page, which never made the claim, lists AES-256 at rest, TLS 1.2 or better in transit, Google Cloud hosting, no model training on customer content, GDPR and CCPA alignment and third-party penetration testing with no firm or report named. If you are buying for a regulated team, ask for the report before you sign.

The developer picture improved in October. There is now a public changelog at hynote.ai/updates, with its newest entry on 12 October, and a public MCP server that lets ChatGPT, Claude and other assistants search and read your notes and save new text notes. It needs an OAuth sign-in and cannot edit or delete notes. There is still no documented REST API: /docs, /developers and /status return 404.

What it does well

  • Eight input types: live audio, uploaded audio files, video, PDF, image OCR, YouTube links, web page capture and phone calls
  • Transcribes Zoom, Google Meet, Teams and Webex without sending a bot into the call
  • Speaker identification on Plus and above, timestamps and translation, with 36 languages for audio transcription per the help center (marketing pages say 50+)
  • More than 30 output templates including meeting minutes, SWOT, interview notes and study notes
  • Exports to Google Docs, Notion, PDF and TXT, and connects to Google Calendar, Calendly, Slack, Zapier, Asana, Pipedrive and Todoist
  • Runs on iOS, Android, web, Mac and Chrome, with an Apple Watch companion; the Mac app is free and transcribes on the device
  • A public MCP server (launched 12 October 2026) lets ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and other assistants search and read your notes and save new text notes

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Takes eight input types, so PDFs, YouTube links and phone calls go through the same tool as meetings source
  • Unlimited tier at $189.99 a year sits below what Otter charges for its mid tier source
  • Records meetings without adding a bot to the participant list source
  • Free tier includes recording and transcription rather than only a trial source
  • 4.78 average from 7,646 iOS ratings, read from Apple's own store data on 17 October 2026 source
  • Publishes a public changelog at hynote.ai/updates, newest entry 12 October 2026 source
  • Free Mac app (28 September 2026) with unlimited recording minutes and on-device transcription source

Cons

  • The pricing page opens on annual rates, so the $6.66 headline is really $11.99 if you pay monthly, and the one-time credits halve (Pro 150 against 300) source
  • Buying inside the iOS app costs more on most plans: Unlimited is $199.99 a year in-app against $189.99 on the site (Plus monthly is the one exception, $1 cheaper in-app) source
  • The security page cites GDPR and CCPA alignment and third-party penetration testing but names no auditor, report or certification; the SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA line we recorded on the homepage in August is no longer on the site source
  • No documented REST API: /docs, /developers and /status return 404. The new MCP server needs an OAuth sign-in and can read, search and add text notes but cannot edit or delete them source
  • HyNote's own pages disagree with each other on languages (50+ on marketing pages, 36 in the help center, English only for real-time transcription) and on review counts source
  • The site is operated by Turing Intelligence LLC while the iOS app is published by Tuling Network Limited source
